CAD Designer / Design for Manufacture / Business Development, Midlands, UK
With a long running interest in product design, and a deep interest in 'how things work', I have always seen myself as an innovative product designer. I am constantly improving products around me and have a wide knowledge of products that already exist.
I have a deep passion for watches and luxury products and collect watches and luxury products such as cufflinks and leather products.
My idols would have to be Jonathon Ive and Shiro Nakamura.
I began studying the subject at GCSE, obtaining an A followed up with an A Level in the subject.
I studied at The University of Derby between 2007 and 2011.
I graduated with a 2:1 BA In Product Design.
I exhibited at the New Designers Show In London In the Summer of 2011.
I am currently working for a Luxury design Consultancy in London. I have held the position of Lead CAD Designer since August 2011.
My current role has me placed at a Manufacturer of Luxury Products in Precious metals where I will be streamlining production using control systems, standardizing methods and gaining experience and training related to CNC machining and Strategy.
This role pushes all of my previous skills and I am learning to use Rhino as well as providing support with visuals for quoting purposes.
I use Dassault Systems SolidWorks to create 3D Models of luxury products including Swiss Timepieces, Men's Accessories, Writing Instruments, Retail Packaging, Display Cabinets, Automotive parts and more. These models are to evaluate the form, fit, and function of the design and allow me to intuitively make changes to quickly develop a product from concept to design and then manufacture.
I am also able to evaluate the correct materials and manufacture processes that should be used to ensure the product is cost effective to produce and market by applying my experience in the Industry. All elements of the design process can be communicated using 3D data, High Definition Renders, Animations and by producing plastic or metal prototypes. I also have a lot of experience in model making and plastic fixtures and internal structure design from years of repairing computers and mobile phones and other electronic items.
My Previous employment included 3 years at one of the UK's Largest bookmakers, William Hill, as a Manager, and also managing a busy Cantonese Takeaway.
I also regularly repair, upgrade and build computers, repair mobile phones and other products, so i have a good knowledge of the internal working of electronic devices and also software and user interfaces.
I love to travel and look forward to liaising with people in various countries to obtain information and services to create quality products. I have visited Hong Kong, China (Xiamen and Wenzhou), Basel/Switzerland and Holland on business trips.
I would love to get work in the USA and visit Korea, Thailand and Japan.
When I travel to the Far East, I am usually accompanied by my Wife, as she is a qualified Interpreter/Translator, Born in Hong Kong, her first language is Cantonese, but she speaks fluent Mandarin and of course English. She also has a diverse background of experience in the translation field ranging from medical, social care and technical languages, as she works for many companies that manufacture in the far east.
A demonstration of my ability to travel would be my commute of some 65,000 miles in the last year.
